Does That Knot In Your Stomach Prevent You From Sleeping At Night?

Anyone who has seen (or heard) me talk knows I always preach one sentence.

“Are you an owner working in your practice or and owner working on your practice?”

How you answer that question will determine the amount of success you and your practice will have.

I am regularly speaking with private practice owners all across the United States, and the same fears are heard day in and day out. Fears such as “my new patients are declining” or “my revenue isn’t what it used to be” or even “we are not innovating like we should”. All of these issues can be removed with two key principles:  clarity and focus.

When we first see a new patient we first perform a complete evaluation. From this evaluation we are able to determine a plan of care and set specific goals for this patient to achieve. In other words, we provide clarity to this patient and their issues. Why don’t we provide the same clarity to our business?

As that same patient is progressing through their plan of care we adapt the program, and goals, to their progress. How do we do this? We monitor their progress (or lack thereof) and make changes to their program to achieve a similar goal. Why don’t we provide the same focus to our business?

Running a business is much like a patient treatment, evaluate, adapt, reassess, adapt, continue…having clarity and focus on where your business is and where you want it to be will achieve success!
